A US Mayor Mary Lou Pauly has come out to condemn the actions of a US man who racially abused former Churchill Show comedian David the Student in Issaquah City, Washington State.
“Let me make it clear. Racism has no place in our community. We must all respect each other (and #MaskUp, Issaquah)” the Mayor tweeted.
David moved to the US a while back and currently works as a driver for a taxi company LYFT. This comes after the video of the allegedly drunk man throwing all manner of racist abuses went viral after being reported by the US media.
The incident took place on Friday, November 20 when David picked a couple at a Sports Grill and asked them to put on their masks as per the imposed covid-19 restrictions and the problems began with one of the passengers
It is reported the man took off his mask upon boarding the taxi and the comedian once again asked the passenger to have his mask on and the man becomes unruly. David was then forced to pull over to sort out the issue but the man insisted on alighting and even posed a threat that he will pee inside the car.
“He ignored me the first time, I repeated (it)and told him he’s putting me at risk and all the other passengers I pick up after him. So I just pulled over and got out of the car and told them I have canceled the ride, they can go ahead and get another drive,” David said.
The area police have said they are aware of the incident but would not take any action unless the comedian presses charges.
The cab agency lift has also banned the abuser from using their services and has reached out to David the Student to stand with him through the awful experience.
“There is no place for discrimination of any sort in the Lyft community, and this behavior is unacceptable. We have permanently removed the rider from the Lyft community and are in touch with the driver to offer our support,” the agency tweeted.
It is also reported that the man has been fired from his place of work.
Meanwhile, the former comedian has taken it to social media to thank all those that stood by him under the absurd circumstances.
