It gets tiring and disheartening jumping from one product to another in our quest to have good, healthy skin. They come in all formulations, with different promised results which aren’t always achieved. After a frustrating episode of sampling, you might conclude most of these products you see are just fancy packaging and give up.

But what if there was another way? A cheaper, simpler and completely natural way? I bet you’d go for it without much thought. Ever though of using common household items for skin care? Yes, that is the way to go.

Let’s look at some items that come in handy on matters skin. The answer to your problems might have been staring right back at you the entire time.

  • Honey

I’ve never had a legit reason not to love honey. From numerous health benefits like treating colds, regulating cholesterol and maintaining blood pressure to cosmetic benefits, honey got you.

If you’re prone to acne, honey can help unplug your pores. Apply it on clean and dry skin for 20 minutes then wash off. Alternatively, you can combine it with other items like turmeric or banana to make face masks which work just as good if not better.

Be very careful when buying honey, with so many counterfeits disguised as original, you can easily buy one which won’t help you in any way.

  • Lemon

It has astringent and antibacterial properties which help skin toning and lightening. If your face is full of blemishes or you just have uneven skin tone, consider turning to this solution.

Simply cut and squeeze your lemon to get some juice then apply the juice on your face or any other area you want to lighten. Leave it for 15 minutes then rinse. You’ll also notice your skin feels tighter, which is also a great thing.

For face masks, you can use lemon with a vast majority of other items like baking soda, egg white, turmeric and yoghurt.

  • Avocado

I know most of you will love this one because avocadoes are just irresistible, there’s even a song about them. For a minute, forget guacamole and the fact that they go so well with everything food.

It’s not only good for your plate but also your face. It’s oil has the ability to penetrate deep into your skin which aids rejuvenation to achieve a younger looking skin and fight skin irritations.

To make face masks, combine avocado puree with either olive oil, honey or egg whites then follow procedure like any other mask.

  • Cucumber

Have you been tirelessly working up to the wee hours of the night or just partied hard until dawn? When your eyes appear swollen as a result of lacking adequate sleep, this is the item you need to run to.

Cucumbers have ascorbic acid which helps draw out excess moisture from the skin. To get rid of the puffines and dark circles, place a slice of cucumber onto each eye for some minutes.

If you don’t have cucumbers, you can use teabags instead. Steep two in boiled water, refrigerate for 10 minutes then place them on each eye for 2o minutes. You’ll love the outcome.
